A functional object with sculptural content, this contemporary firepit recalls the curvilinear forms of primitive ships.
Varying in length and width, many unique strips of steel have been dished to conform to the same imagined sphere. Gathered together along a common trajectory, each piece retains its distinct individuality while nonetheless contributing to a greater, unified whole.
Traditional rivets -- with the contemporary twist that they are constructed of hollow square tubing -- fasten the pieces together. These rivets also provide viewpoints into and through the piece, a particularly pleasing feature when a fire is flickering.
The base is constructed to shed water while holding 1/2" or larger rock or gravel, and fastens to the firepit by means of stainless steel bolts made for a 7/32" allen key. Included are a steel cover that rests above those fasteners during use, and a set of handheld steel hooks that slide into the hollow rivets, allowing the Fireboat to be moved by two able-bodied people.
As with all of our products, the Fireboat is built with a lifespan of many decades.
