Painted Karma

a Restoration & Upcycled Furniture Workshop

Artisan Spotlight on Painted Karma, a Restoration & Upcycled Furniture Workshop
Kristy & Duran Searles of Painted Karma
Kristy & Duran Searles, the creative force and owners behind Painted Karma, a home decor shop specializing in restoring and upcycling furniture can be found in the quintessentially quaint New England town of Kingston, Rhode Island.

The Searles, originally from New York, made their way up to Rhode Island several years ago and opened up shop with Duran as the restoration and construction expert and Kristy, also an interior designer, tackling all painting, artwork and fabrications on the pieces. Some of their stand out collections are hand made farm tables and old suitcases repurposed into high-quality sound systems (yes you can connect your phone or computer to it). Their signature Latimer Lamps use electric light bulbs based on the original ones designed by Lewis Latimer, one of the first African American inventors who was Alexander Graham Bell’s assistant and later part of Thomas Edison’s elite research team, ‘Edison’s Pioneers’.

“Our furniture is carefully selected and given an individual rehab plan. Each of our one-of-a-kind pieces is hand painted and in some cases transformed beyond the imagination…truly works of art," they say about the business they’ve grown from scratch based on their passion for old furniture and the stories that go along with them.
